About

Me and my Irina

Thank you for taking the time to read up on me. I'm still populating the site but here is a quick overview of who I am...

I'm Andrew Yates or simply Andy, a Software Engineer and Graphic Designer currently working full-time as Head of Development for Dial Marketing Services Ltd. - a gaming company based in Larnaca, Cyprus .

I have been building and designing websites since I was 10 years old, initially on some small scale - starting out in Frontpage and gradually moving to hand written PHP, then other languages - always coming up with little projects to keep me busy and improve on the last. Up until the current day where not much has changed, alright - I don't use Frontpage anymore, and unless it's absolutely necessary I avoid PHP too but I am still coming up with little side projects and improving.

Technophobes on the roofI started out my professional career working for TechnoPhobia Ltd. as a Junior Developer, on a University placement - I liked it so much I never went back to University. It was a great experience, there I had the privilege of working with some of the best Software Engineers I've met in a fantastic working environment full of lively, fun people who are passionate about what they do.

After three years at TechnoPhobia I decided it was time to branch out, I got a position working at Whitespace - a Digital Agency in Sheffield where I was able to take on more responsibility, work much closer with clients and handle most of my own time and project management. It was a great learning experience, and involved some interesting and very creative projects.

Slotpartners TeamOne year later (and 9 months after I'd bought a house) I was presented with the opportunity to take a Senior Development position working for a Dutch Gaming company based in Cyprus - I was hesitant at first but eventually couldn't turn it down, the work has been interesting and challenging at times. I have been with the company a year now and am now Head of Development... which means less code and more spreadsheets, woo!

I'm not sure what the future holds - it wouldn't be interesting if I did - but I'm always looking for new things, working on my own projects, and client work with the ultimate goal of working for myself so if you're in need of a website get in touch, I'm always happy to take on new clients.
